Mens Skin Care Tips
For many years when the words “skin care” were mentioned, the instant thoughts were that these referred almost exclusively to women. In man ways they still do, but like anything else, the times they are a changing. In today’s society more and more men are willing and quite prepared to look after their skin.
It is fair to say that in these modern times many men strive to have great looking skin. As the male grooming industry grows more and more products are being designed for various basic and special needs.
The problem for most guys is knowing what products are available, and when they should be used. Understanding the different men skin care products can help any man decide what he needs to use to get the best looking skin possible.
We will also probably know that this industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, and manufacturers and brands are looking to expand this into the world of males. In fact, over the past 10 years, the production of skin care products aimed at men has simply exploded.
What Type of Skin Care Do Men Need?
The reality is that men’s skin is no different to a lady’s skin. The one big difference is that women generally speaking know exactly how to look after their skin. Even these days, most men do not bother, and are convinced that a good wash of their face is all that they need.
For those that know better, there are a whole range of useful skin care products available on the market right now. We will have a look at some of these below, so at least you will know what is available.
Skin Cleansers for Men
A cleanser is I believe one of the most important cosmetics to use that will keep the skin looking healthy. There are a ton of products that can be used to cleanse skin. However the one that you select should be designed to suit the type of skin that you have.
Some guys struggle with dry skin and so they need to find a make skin care product that won’t irritate their skin causing it to dry even further. The same is true of men with oily skin.
Finding a cleanser that will help balance out the oil is the goal. It is important to know your skin type so don’t be afraid to ask.
Cleansing the skin is probably the best way of avoiding spots and keeping the face looking young and healthy. Rather than using soap that can tend to block the skin pores, something like a goof face wash is ideal. There are plenty of these available on the market, such as this one from Bulldog, which is a best seller.
All the leading brands make these of course and some are much more expensive than others. The one we have mentioned here costs around £2-3 and is about the right price for one of these types of product. These types of cleansers should not only clean the skin properly, but should also help tone it up.
Quite a few men also pinch or “borrow” certain products from their partners. When we were reading through the many reviews, we noticed that quite a few men tried out skin cleansing systems that their partners had purchases. These were so effective, that they actually did buy one of their own.
Again there are any number of these on the market from leading brands like Olay, Pixner etc but the one that most men had opted for was one called the Clarisonic Skin Care Mia 2 Sonic Skin Cleansing System.
Now it is not a cheap option at around £100 and I don’t think I would go there myself, but many younger men have. We also noticed that men in their late 40’s and 50’s were buying these products as well.
No matter which skin cleanser you decide to go for, just make sure it is one that is made to work with your specific skin type.
Typically you can buy cleansers for normal, dry and oily skin types.
Shaving Skin Care
If you have read any of our other articles here at the Emporium, then you will be aware how much we bang on about shaving properly. For the very best skin care we strongly recommend wet shaving.
Skin needs to be moisturised as much as possible and that means you should only use good quality and yet inexpensive shaving creams. That along with a good quality razor and a sharp blade is truly all you need.
Far too many men tend to purchase the cheapest shaving foam at the chemist or supermarket. Although price wise that is ok, the poor quality of the product may actually be causing damage to their skin.
It’s important to use a shaving cream that is full of moisturiser. As I have mentioned a good working razor is also crucial as one that is dull can rip the skin. When you view shaving as part of the men skin care regime it’s easy to see why the products you use matter so much.
There really is a silly assumption that only women wear moisturisers. That may be true but all skins need to be conditioned and moisturising is the single best method of making sure that happens. This is normally applied to the skin in the morning and evening immediately after cleansing.
This will give men’s skin two things – keep their skin healthy and reduce wrinkles.
These types of products are really cheap. The best seller over at Amazon is this one from the brand L’Oreal and costs less than £7. We think that is something that makes moisturising a no brainer for men.

Sunscreen for Men
The huge majority of people put sun tan cream on their kids and when they go on holidays. One thing ages skin more than anything else and that is called the “sun.” The sun dries out the skin and also has very harmful UV rays that can easily cause skin cancer.
Here at the Emporium we would say that if a man just wants to use one product that that one single product should be some form of sunscreen. This is true whether he spends all day working in the sun or he simply walks back and forth to his car.
The rise of skin cancer in the UK is frightening and by adding the simple habit of using a quality sunscreen can really add a layer of important protection against the sun’s damaging rays. This is a men’s skin care product that should be used not just for kids or holidays, but all the time.
Apart from the obvious protection it will stop the skin from aging.
Top Rated Eye Creams for Men
One of the first places where you will see a sign of ageing, is around the eyes. Again, this is pretty much the same for men and women. There are a whole range of eye creams available in the UK market, specifically designed for men.
Some of these do get great results, and they are now starting to sell a lot of these eye care products. All the leading skin care brands are now creating male specific products.
They also look better designed for guys, than some of the other more female styled packaging. Rather than get into these in too much detail here, I have completed a separate article on eye creams.
Best Deodorants for Men
I am sure we have all experienced the horrid scent of body odour. If you have had the misfortune to work beside someone, share a train with someone who has a heavy body odour, then you know just how unpleasant that can actually be.
There are quite literally hundreds of different body deodorants available on the UK market. These range from the cheap and cheerful brands, and all the way through to what are classed as luxury deodorants.
Now these products as such do not really be classed as skin care, but I thought it was still important to list this information here. Many guys suffer from rashes under the arms, if they use certain of these products.
