How to use a beard bib?

Step 1 - Place the apron around your neck - You attach the apron around the neck using whatever fastening attachment the apron has. Some use simple ties, others use velcro and some use buttons. Once that is done you then attach the suction cups.

Step 2 - Attach the suction caps - The key to making these work is the suction cups. All of them will attach to mirror glass or marble. That makes them suitable for mirrors, windows and most tiles. (Patterned tiles can be difficult) Some manufacturers use a clip to improve the suction such as the Justime one. Other manufacturers recommend wetting the suction caps first before sticking them to the surface.

Step 3 - Use your beard trimmer - You can use a beard trimmer, a razor of your preferred method of trimming your beard. The hair should fall into and be collected by the bib which stops any hairs going down the sink and messing up the bathroom.

Step 4 - Hair disposal - Remove the suction cups and dispose of any hair into a bin. Don't be tempted to flush this down the loo as over time that will also block the drains.

How To Get Rid of a Grey Beard

We explain how to get rid of a grey beard. Most likely, there will come a time when the hair on our beards, moustaches and sideburns start to turn grey. This is just one of those things that happens. The rate at which our hair turns grey is primarily down to our genes. We get those from our father and grandfather and we can simply do nothing about that. If it is going to happen, it will happen.

Many men are happy to embrace their grey hair. However, others will feel self-conscious about the appearance of their grey beard. If you're one of the many men who's wondering whether or not it's possible to reverse grey hair, you're not alone. In this article, we'll explore the science behind grey hair, the different options for reversing grey beards, and why some men choose to embrace their grey hair instead of trying to reverse it.

What Causes Grey Beard Hair?

We have pigment cells in our hair follicles. As we start to age, these pigment cells start to die. As these pigment cells die, the strands of hair no longer contain as much melanin and will change colour to either grey, silver, or white as it continues to grow.

The rate at which grey hair appears is down to our genes, and we have no control over those. This means that for most of us, we will start to get grey hairs around the same age that our parents or grandparents first did.

Is it possible to reverse grey hair on your beard? Before exploring potential solutions, it's important to understand the science behind grey hair.

Hair colour is simply determined by the amount of melanin in the hair follicle. Melanin is a pigment that gives colour to our skin, hair, and eyes. As we age, the melanin production in hair follicles decreases, leading to grey hair. This is due to a decrease in the number and activity of melanocyte cells, which produce the pigment.

Age-Related Changes in Hair Pigmentation

While grey hair is often associated with aging, it can also be caused by other factors such as genetics, stress, health conditions, and environmental factors. In some cases, hair may turn grey prematurely, before the age of 20. Understanding the causes of grey hair can help us determine if it's possible to reverse it.

How to Prevent a Grey Beard?

From the information above hopefully you realise that the appearance of grey hairs in our hair or beards are pretty much out of our control. There are however a few simple things we can do that will help prevent grey hairs from appearing too early.

These sound very easy to do, but in real life, they are a lot more difficult than you may initially think. Generally speaking, men are bad at looking after their skin. You may well ask why looking after the skin is so important.

Healthy skin promotes healthy hair growth. Healthy hair growth means strong hair that is well balanced and strong. So if we look after the skin in our scalp and face, there is a much better chance of growing healthy hair. That is best achieved by using good quality beard moisturisers.

Preventing grey hair can be a challenge but there are ways to help reduce the likelihood of it happening. One important factor is maintaining a healthy diet, including plenty of vitamins and minerals such as B12, biotin, and iron. Using hair products with UV protection and avoiding excessive heat styling can also help prevent damage to hair strands which in turn can lead to premature greying.

Reducing stress levels through exercise and relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation may also slow down the onset of grey hair. Lastly, quitting smoking is another key factor in preventing premature ageing not only for your hair but for your entire body. While we cannot fully reverse the signs of aging, taking care of our health can help us look and feel our best at any age.

How to Get Rid of Grey Beards Naturally?

There is a little limited scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of natural remedies for grey hair reversal, and some people may find these options useful or worth trying.

Herbal Remedies for Grey Hair Prevention

Herbs such as sage, rosemary, and nettle may have properties that can help promote healthy hair growth and reduce the risk of premature grey hair.

Natural Dyes and Other Topical Treatments for Grey Hair

Natural dyes such as henna, indigo, and black walnut may be a safer alternative to chemical hair dyes. Other topical treatments such as onion juice, coconut oil, and aloe vera may also promote healthy hair growth. However, it's important to note that these remedies may not work for everyone and may have potential risks and side effects.

How to Stop Your Beard from Growing White Hair?

There are a few simple tricks to prevent your beard from growing white hairs. Try as best you can to have a healthy lifestyle, which will mean eating a balanced diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals. It is the lack of these that can contribute to premature graying.

Try to reduce stress levels by regularly exercising and start some relaxation techniques. Stress has been linked to the onset of premature graying, so finding ways to unwind is crucial.

We would also recommend proper beard care by using high-quality grooming products that nourish both hair and skin. Regularly moisturise your facial hair with natural oils like argan or jojoba oil to keep it hydrated and prevent breakage that may cause white hairs to appear.

Finally, consider adding specific supplements such as biotin or fo-ti root extract known for promoting healthy hair pigmentation. So embrace your natural beard color with these tips for preventing those pesky white hairs from popping up unexpectedly.

Can a Grey Beard be Reversed?

There is no guaranteed way to reverse grey hair, however, there are a variety of options available. However, it's important to note that some options may only work for certain individuals based on factors such as genetics and age.

Factors Affecting Grey Beard Reversal

Factors that can affect grey beard reversal include genetics, lifestyle habits, and medical conditions. Genetics play a significant role in determining when and how much grey hair a person will have. Lifestyle habits such as smoking, poor diet, and stress can also contribute to premature grey hair. Certain medical conditions such as thyroid disorders and vitamin deficiencies may also contribute to grey hair.

What are the limitations?

There are a variety of options that claim to reverse grey hair, but is is important to understand that all of those have certain limitations. As an example, hair dyes can cover up grey hair, but they don't actually reverse the process. Some supplements and topical treatments may claim to promote melanin production, but there's little scientific evidence to support their effectiveness. Medical procedures such as hair transplants may also be an option, but they can be expensive and have potential risks.

Diet & Lifestyle

Eating a healthy, balanced diet that includes plenty of vitamins and minerals can help promote healthy hair growth and reduce the risk of premature grey hair. Foods rich in vitamin B12, iron, and copper can help promote melanin production. In addition to nutrition, other lifestyle modifications can help prevent premature grey hair. Managing stress, getting regular exercise, and quitting smoking can all contribute to healthy hair growth.

How to use a beard dye for best results?

Any man who grows a beard will know that beard hair is never the same as the hair on your head. It is almost always more curly and grows in many different directions and has varying colours. People say often it is a law onto itself. The main reason people consider dyeing their beard is to get rid of grey hairs and to give it a more consistent look.

Always do a test patch

The best advice we can give any guy is to start with a test patch on your beard. Never ever get a dye, mix it and apply it to all of your beard. That could be a huge mistake. Remember you are trying to get a natural look in most cases and to do that you need to start slowly. When you get the look that you want you can then get braver with a fuller application of the hair dye.

Pick a small section of your beard and "the neck area" is usually the best place for that. That means if anything goes wrong it is mainly hidden from view. Apply a small amount of dye and leave for around 5-6 minutes. Wash that off and give it a quick shampoo and see what that looks like. If you are satisfied then you can carry on. We would recommend leaving it for 24 hours to see what it looks like then.

How Beard Hair dyes work?

Remember that dye does what it says it does. It changes the colour of your hair. In most cases, the longer you leave the dye on, the darker the hair will become.

Temporary vs Permanent Beard Hair dyes

Just to be clear there are temporary hair dyes which you normally brush on. Typically these last for around 24 hours and will stand up to things like rain without disappearing. They will however wash out in a shower or if you wash your face in the sink. The permanent hair dye typically will last for a few weeks. Although the word permanent is used, in reality, it is not the true sense of the word.

What Hair Beard Dyes Contain?

The exact ingredients will vary from brand to brand. A few brands use organic or natural products and these types of dyes are always more expensive than those that use chemicals in their dyes. The ingredients in the cheaper dyes include Aminomethyl Propanol, Carbomer, Resorcinol, Cetearyl Alcohol, p-Phenylenedi-amine, Sodium Sulfite, Erythorbic Acid, Biotin and Etidronic Acid.

These can cause allergies and can also burn more sensitive skins.

How to Apply a Beard Dye?

Assuming that you have done a patch test and had no adverse results, then it's time to check that you have got the look that is best for you. That may take a few attempts and primarily just remember the principle that the longer you leave the dye on your beard, the darker the hair will become.

We always recommend starting with 5 minutes. If that is not dark enough then try 6 minutes etc until you get the right colour that you want to achieve. With a temporary dye, in most cases you simply comb it in and let the colour change until you get the required look.

Most permanent dyes means mixing equal amount of both tubes into a past before applying. Leave for the time period that you have figured out beforehand. Than wash off with a good beard shampoo. You can then check that you get the correct result.

Using a Beard Moisturiser to get the best results

The key to getting results is to use whichever moisturiser you pick on a daily basis. That is the real so called secret to seeing positive results. Men, generally speaking, are a tad lazy when it comes to developing a daily routine. They may do it for a few days and then it becomes every now and then.

If you can develop the habit of doing this every day, then you will start to see the results in about 2-3 weeks. It really doesn't matter which of the moisturising products you pick, it is the regular use of them that helps deliver the results.

Don't be afraid to experiment

The good news is that on average any of these products cost around £4-5, so buying a bottle or tube will not break the bank. The scent that you prefer, and the overall results will eventually lead you to your own favourite. Here at the Shaving Emporium, we all use different products, that we have settled on over time.

Hopefully this information has helped to inform you a little better about the variety of beard moisturisers, that are currently available on the UK market. We have completed a full article on all of the beard grooming products on the UK market, and you can read about those by clicking here.

What Is Beard Wax Used For?

There are a number of beard products on the UK market, and for guys with beards, a good quality balm is an important one to understand.

In its simplest form, a beard balm is simply a conditioner that you apply and then leave it to do its work. It does four main things

  1. Moisturises the skin underneath the beard
  2. Helps improve the general condition of the beard
  3. It helps soften the beard
  4. It allows you to shape your beard.

Balms will contain a variety of ingredients such a shea butter which does the softening and moisturizing job. They will also contain oils such as almond oil which helps with overall conditioning and growth. Finally it will have something like beeswax which acts as protection for the beard and helps seal in moisture.

The average price for a good quality balm is around £13-£15, and you can pay up to £20 for one with high end ingredients. At the lower end you can pick a cheaper one up for around £10.

Beard Wax Buyer's Guide

We always like to write a full buyer's guide, which we believe is especially helpful for any new buyer. Beard waxes can get complex so we have tried to make sense of the features below.

Holding Strength - These can range from light through to medium and all the way to extra strong. They strength you want will really depend on the style you want to have and the texture of your facial hair. In reality quite a few men have to try different strengths to discover which one works best for them.

Ingredient Quality - We recommend buying a wax that contains natural oils, beeswax, and butter. These are natural ingredients and safer than using anything chemical anywhere near your skin.

Colour Matching - these do come in different colours so make sure to pick one as close to your beard colour as possible.

Wax Scent - something that always divides opinion. Our advice is to look for light scented products rather than heavier smells. Again this very much will come down to personal choice.

Beard Wax vs Beard Balms vs Beard Butters

Is there really that much of a difference between waxes, balms and butters? The truth is there is not a great deal of difference at all, though there are some minor ones, which we think are worth knowing.

In the actual beard wax products, different waxes are used by different manufacturers. These include:

  • Candelilia Wax
  • Beeswax
  • Jojoba wax
  • Beard balm - this is a conditioner that is primarily used to style your beard. Beard balm is a mixture of both oil and butter. Balms are best used on beards shorter than 4 inches or on longer beards to get a strong hold
  • Beard wax - this wax is useful for controlling rugged whiskers and controlling fly away hair and for styling your beard Beard Wax is much harder than balm and as such is used to style the beard.

Beard butters don't really sell that much in the UK. They are very similar to waxes and balms and they simply have a higher concentration of butter.

Beard Wax vs Beard Oil

Beard oils are still the most popular choice to have and maintain a healthy beard. Beard oils help nourish the beard and encourage healthy growth. Beard wax is more about styling the beard and holding the beard and that is the key difference.

Popular oils we have shown below.

  • Meadow foam seed oil
  • Black seed oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Palm oil
  • Peach kernel oil

What Butters Are Used in Beard Wax?

Different butters are used by different manufacturers. These include:

  • Shea butter
  • Cocoa butter
  • Avocado butter

How to Apply Beard Wax

List of Steps

Step 1 - Prepare the beard

Before applying a wax, make sure the beard is dry and clean.

Step 2 - Prepare the Wax

The majority of people prefer to slightly warm the wax, others just use straight from the tin. By gently warming first between your fingers you will get a better result, than trying to massage in hard wax straight from the tin. Some people will use a hair dryer to soften it, but don't overdo this as you don't want to get it to a liquid state.

Step 3 - Apply the wax

Place some wax in your hand and apply to one side of your beard. Using your fingers gently massage it in until you are happy with the results. Use a beard comb to style and shape it to your needs. Then repeat for the other side of your beard.

How to Remove Beard Wax

Like any hair product using it will cause a build up of that particular product. Beard wax is no different and if used regularly can start to block up pores. We recommend washing it out at the end of the day as it doesn't take long. Always use a beard wash or beard shampoo to wash it out and don't use soap and hot water.

Leave the wash in for 3-5 minutes to let it do its work. Then comb through with a beard comb and the job is done. Some guys also like to add a beard conditioner and leave that overnight.

Hopefully we have explained exactly what bread wax is and how it is used. We have more information on the many beard products available on the UK market, which you can read by clicking here.

Best Beard Oil UK

Best Beard Oil Buying Guide

Thanks for taking your time to read out information and reviews on the best beard oils, that are currently available on the UK marketplace.

Oils are used to keep a beard looking healthy with a nice shine. There are however other benefits that include help with preventing beard itch and also preventing dandruff.

There are a lot of different beard oils available on the UK market. Trying to find the one you prefer we believe is often a matter of trial and error. That is because different guys like different scents.

If bears are not treated with oil and cared for, they ten to look dry and a bit scruffy. The skin underneath the beard gets clogged up with dead skin cells, and it is those that make the beard itch.

Running and combing or brushing some beard oil in helps keep the hair itself well treated, but more importantly helps moisturise the skin underneath.

All our product recommendations are based on our independent research which we conduct online by reading the many reviews we find at online websites. This review contains affiliate links and we may receive a commission for purchases made.

You can read our affiliates page to find out more and also read about how we write our reviews.

What Is Beard Oil Used For?

Our skin produces a natural oil called "sebum" and that oil is what ensures healthy hair growth. As we age that oil does not produce the same amount of natural oil as when we were younger.

Brushing and combing the beard does actually help stimulate that sebum and also helps spread it throughout the beard, and the skin underneath.

Even with that, not enough oil is produced, and that is where a good quality beard oil can really help a lot.

Almost all good quality beard oils contain oils such as almond oil jojoba oil or argan oil which help moisturise the hairs, and also moisturise the skin. That in turn keeps away itch and dandruff, and adds a nice shine to the beard.

Beard Oil Buyer's Guide

We always like to write a full buyer's guide, which we believe is especially helpful for any new buyer. Beard oils can get complex so we have tried to make sense of the features below.

What Oils are Used in Beard Oil?

There are a lot of naturally produced oils that are used by manufacturers when making beard oils. The most common are:

  • Argan Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Almond Oil

Let's have a look at each of them and see what properties they have that make them a good choice for beard oils.

Argan Oil for Beards

This particular oil is generally speaking good for all types of hair. Argan oil is extracted from the kernel of the Argan tree. This tree is native to Morocco

This oil contains antioxidants, essential fatty acids such as Omega 6, and vitamin A, C and E. This helps improve the moisture and elasticity of the hair. That in turn helps keep hair healthy and with a good shine.

Vitamin E in particular has properties that prevent splitting of hairs. Fatty acids in the right amount are really good at strengthening hair.

Jojoba Oil for Beards

The jojoba plant is United States. It grows in the desert regions of Arizona, southern California, and Mexico. It is used quite a lot in cosmetic products.

This oil is predominantly used as it is very good at adding moisture to the hair and the skin. By simply adding moisture you prevent dry hair, and that helps with hair breaking or splitting.

The oil itself contains vitamin b, C and E. It also contains both copper and zinc. It is believed that this makes jojoba oil is especially good at preventing hair loss.

Almond Oil for Beards

Almond oil is an emollient and as such helps soften hair. It works like a conditioner and makes it easier to comb or brush.

Almond oil includes Omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids, vitamin E, and magnesium. It is used quite a lot to treat hair loss and damaged hair.

Best Beard Moustache Scissors UK

Best Beard Moustache Scissors- UK Reviews & Buying Guide

Thanks for taking your time to read out information and reviews on the best beard brushes, that are currently available on the UK marketplace.

When you start to grow out your beard, then it is important to groom it properly so as it looks as good as it can be. Some men like to use a beard comb to do that, whereas other men prefer a brush.

It really depends on what type of beard you want to grow, and also on which item you prefer. In the early days of growth it is best to use a brush, and then change over to a comb when the beard gets longer and thicker.

Using a brush in the early stages of beard growth ensures that the beard is soft and has plenty of life as it develops. Brushes help immensely in preventing beard itch, and removing dead skin cells.

In simple terms, by using a brush, you give your beard the best chance of a healthy growth from the outset.

What Are Beard Scissors Used For?

If used on a regular basis, then a brush helps keep the hair soft. It will also have a big impact on the shine, as a slightly tougher beard brush, helps spread an oil called "sebum" across the beard and the bristles.

Sebum is a natural oil produced under the skin, and the brush merely helps spread this around the hair follicles on your beard, which are densely packed.
