Best Toiletry Bag for Men for Travel & Home Use
In this article we will be reviewing the full range of toiletry bags for men, that are currently available in the UK. As you might expect, there are certainly plenty of choices to be had. Most guys will own at least one of these bags. Almost inevitably, they will have been bought one, by a friend or relation, as a Christmas or Birthday present.
The question is though, is it really the right one for your specific needs. The type of toiletry bag that you should own, will depend on your lifestyle. I used to travel a lot with work. When that was the case, I had a bag that I used at home, I also had a bag that I kept ready for when I had to travel.
Many men will simply use the same toiletry bag for home use, and for when they have to travel. Then of course there will be the annual summer holiday. Do you really need a different toiletry bag for that? Many men regularly go to the gym, so do you need a different one for that?
Which Toiletry Bag Style Do You Really Need?
As I mentioned earlier, this will come down to your personal choice, and also to your lifestyle, and how much you need to travel. It will also be heavily affected, by what you plan to keep in your bag.
Some men will only have a few items, others will have a great deal more. Let's have a quick look at what men actually keep in their toiletry bag. The items below should help, and some may even surprise you.
What Do Men Keep In Their Toiletry Bag? Men's Toiletry Kit
- Shower Gel
- Deodorant Spray
- Toothbrush & toothpaste
- Hair Gel, sprays etc
- Shaving Balm
- Shaving Cream, soap, gel or foam
- Razors or shavers
- Comb and/or hair brush
- Make up
- Shoe Polish
- Wet Wipes
- Sun lotion and after sun when travelling or in the summer
- Insect bite or mosquito spray when travelling
Now I am pretty sure that this is not an exhaustive list, and I am also pretty sure that many guys only take a few of these items. However, you can see that there is certainly plenty of variety of toiletries available.
You can also figure out, that what you may have at home, may not be what you want to take with you for an overnight trip, a weekend break, a summer holiday or a visit to the gym or fitness class.
What Is a Dopp Kit?
This is a term that is being used in the UK more and more. It originates from the USA and is how many people there, refer to a "body hygiene kit." Many manufacturers use this in their product name, so we thought you should know about it. According to Wikipedia, the name came from "the early 20th century leather craftsman Charles Doppelt, whose company designed the case in 1919." It is simply the name for a wash bag.

Top Tips for Buying a Men's Toiletry Bag
Tip 1 - Size really does matter. If you need to use a lot of toiletries, then ideally you want to keep them all in one bag. That is mainly for use when at home. Most of the toiletry bags sold on the UK market are actually pretty small.
You end up stuffing items into the bag, and that just makes them hard to find when you need them. It is only a few extra pounds to get a larger one, and in my opinion well worth the small extra investment, at the time of purchase.
Tip 2 - It is OK to own 2 or 3 toiletry bags. I have one that I use at home, one for when I travel and I also have a small basic one that I take to the gym, or when I am playing football. I also have what I call my summer holiday travel bag.
Tip 3 - I would strongly advise that whatever toiletry bag you decide to get, that it is waterproof, for fairly obvious reasons. Many of them are not, which I did find a bit surprising.
Tip 4 - Staying Open - This initially does not sound that important, but it really is. It can be rather frustrating, especially when looking for something, to have to continually having to open the bag wider. Many bags have supporting interiors that keep them open. That makes looking into them a great deal easier.
Tip 5 - Hook or No Hook - Most guys will simply set their bag on a bathroom shelf. If in the gym or a changing room, they may simply grab what they need for the shower, and leave the bag sitting. Many toiletry bags come with hooks, which you can then attach to a door, or to the edge of a shower rail.
